Garden Proposal at Chatsworth House

Travelling from Texas, for a short getaway to Paris and dream trip to the UK, Kyle had also secretly planned a surprise proposal for his soon-to-be-fiance Dayanna. As a huge Pride and Prejudice fan, Dayanna had always wanted to visit Chatsworth House, but was led to believe the timing of a possible trip to the estate wouldn’t be possible, amongst all their other exciting plans.

But little did she know that Kyle had organised a very special day trip to Chatsworth, and her dreams of seeing the beautiful architecture, flourishing grounds and Mr Darcy’s charming sculpture, were about to come true (as well as the anticipation for a very exciting question!!!).

Autumnal Proposal in the Gardens

Kyle reached out to me in August and excitedly shared his plans for his and Dayanna’s upcoming trip to the UK in October. The perfect time of year for gorgeous autumnal colours, which were sure to set an amazing backdrop to this really special moment. With two months to bring everything together, Kyle booked one of Chatsworth’s Proposal Packages, which permitted me to be booked as his proposal photographer alongside.

Working closely with the team, he decided that in the gardens, the Emperor Fountain and Canal Pond was his preferred spot for the proposal. All Kyle and Dayanna would need to do when they arrived is to join a tour of the gardens before being guided to their chosen spot, where I was waiting (hiding) ready to capture this special moment. Sooo very exciting!

On the morning of the proposal, Kyle and Dayanna travelled to Chatsworth House aboard the British Pullman, Belmond’s beautifully restored vintage train. An experience steeped in elegance and old-world romance, it felt like something lifted from the pages of Pride and Prejudice and a romantic gesture that Mr Darcy himself would have approved of.

Arriving at Emperor Fountain and Canal Pond

When arriving at Chatsworth, Kyle and Dayanna climbed aboard a horse and carriage (…it was actually a golf cart, but we can dream!) and were taken to the gardens ready for the big moment. Although it was a little busier than anticipated, and the moment happened so fast as it always does – Kyle got down on his knee in front of the gorgeous gardens and house facade and through utter excitement, Dayanna leaned down to embrace Kyle and whisper her 100% yes!

Gifts of Champagne, Flowers and Chocolates

As part of booking a proposal package with Chatsworth, a bouquet of fresh flowers, chocolates, and champagne is included for you to enjoy and take home, helping you to really take in and celebrate this exciting moment. Whilst toasting to their proposal, Dayanna danced between looking adoringly at Kyle whilst also gushing over the ring. Whilst they spent some time together before we headed off for photos, I captured some candid moments of their interactions and was able to photograph some really lovely moments between them, both laughing and Kyle catching up with Dayanna on his planning over the last 2 months.

Once Kyle and Dayanna were ready, we all bundled into a golf cart and were very kindly escorted around the grounds by one of Chatsworth’s grounds team (I forgot his name, but he was so kind and knowledgeable of the estate!). We drove round the ring pond towards the serpentine hedge, up past the maze overlooking the 100 steps, round to the cascade house for a quick top view of the house, before heading back down to Flora’s Temple, ready for Kyle and Dayanna to enter the house. During our route through the grounds, we stopped off at picturesque places along the way and captured even more lovely moments of their engagement.

Areas recommended to explore during your photoshoot

With 45 minutes to explore the grounds after the proposal, I planned a route ahead of time so that Kyle and Dayanna could see some of the best, most picturesque spots of the grounds during the autumn. There really is so much to see and enjoy when exploring the landscape, and here are a list of locations I would recommend visiting, should you be proposing or visiting Chatsworth House:

• Ring Pond
• Willow Tree Fountain
• Cascade House
• 100 steps
• The Maze
• Mokton Pond
• First Duke’s Greenhouse

It was such a unique touch to their proposal. A private tour meant we had the opportunity to explore the grounds faster and more efficiently than you can by foot. The estate is magnificent in size, and would have taken us all day, if not longer, to cover the amount of ground we were able to on the golf cart.
